It would not have helped us in this situation, however, as we really didn't have the option to change source code on the source database.Cary Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09264435441034661563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6222893893652665733.post-6759992518694900162011-03-02T19:37:27.464-08:002011-03-02T19:37:27.464-08:00Nice post.

Not trying to sell anything here, just wondering.

KevinKevin Powickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12091433096989759271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6222893893652665733.post-28765028656376905192011-03-01T23:28:32.190-08:002011-03-01T23:28:32.190-08:00great post Cary.

Advantage is distinguishable, however, in that it is almost maintanence free, very high speed (due to it being based on ISAM), less expensive than most other database servers, installs in a minute or two, and requires almost no configuration. Visit http://devzone.advantage.com to download a trial version. There is also a royalty-free file server based version (Advantage Local Server) that is 100% API compatible with Advantage Database Server, providing an inexpensive entry point with a scalable upgrade path.Cary Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09264435441034661563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6222893893652665733.post-77527181982270400862011-03-01T08:25:04.530-08:002011-03-01T08:25:04.530-08:00Interesting post. We've created a similar messaging service a while ago that even goes a step further to make sure users don't receive too many messages: each user can specify if he want's to receive messages directly or per hour (Day, week, ...). Each record in the message table also holds information about when the message should be send. If messages are sent they are grouped together for one user and an e-mail is generated (the message table only contains lines to be included in the message).

Is working with Advantage and Delphi any different then with other databases? It seems that these days most databases support features like replication, triggers and notifications?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
